Description:

The eagle pommel on this saber is similar to George Washington's French-made saber shown on pages 128 and 133 of "The American Eagle Pommel Sword: The Early Years - 1794-1830" by Mobray. This sword has a sweeping blade that measures 31 inches straight across and has niter blue panels terminating in scroll patterns with primarily floral etching accented by gilding. The crossguard also has floral patterns, and there is a double chain knuckleguard fitted between the eagle's beak and the fore quillion. The wood grip is checkered on the sides and fluted on the front and rear. Scabbard absent.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% plus of the original niter blue remaining, 25% of the gilding, mostly bright tip section, minor edge wear, mottled gray and brown patina in the base section of the blade, aged patina on the hilt, crisp checkering on the grip, and mild overall wear.
