Description:

This is a very nice mid-production DWM Model 1906 Commercial Luger made expressly for export to the United States that has been fitted with the very desirable Ideal combination shoulder stock/leather holster. These early steel Luger shoulder stocks were designed and patented by the Ideal Holster Company of Los Angeles, CA. They were expressly made for these early commercial Luger pistols as the DWM factory had not yet developed the stock lug and associated wooden shoulder stock for the back of the Luger frame. Attaching the stock to the Luger required a set of special smooth walnut grips with a steel backing plate that had cutouts to engage a set of hooks on the front end of the telescoping metal stock. There is a small button on top of the metal frame that allows the stock to be extended an additional 4 inches giving it an overall length of 14 inches. The center section of the stock has a leather holster to store the pistol and the back side of the frame has a spring loaded metal belt loop. Both sides of the metal frame are marked "PATENTS PENDING". The front toggle link is marked with the DWM logo. The left side of the barrel extension is marked with the commercial "crown over B and U" proof marks. The bottom of the barrel is also marked with the same "Crown/B, G and U" proofmarks over the serial number with no other export markings. The left side of the breechblock and link, which also have the "crown/B" and "crown/U" proof marks. It is serial numbered in the commercial pattern with the full number on the barrel and frame and the partial number on the underside of the barrel extension and small parts and the wood base magazine is unmarked. It has the pre-war blued finish with the safety, trigger, takedown lever and ejector having a straw color.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% plus of the faded original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear with more blue loss on the muzzle area, the front frame rails and the side plate hump. The various small parts retain 40% of their original straw colors overall. The grips show wear and handling on each side. The Ideal wire stock retains traces of its original blue finish overall mostly in the protected areas. The leather holster is very good with a nice dark black finish on the leather itself, with tight stitching. This very fine, original, early 1906 Commercial DWM Luger with both a scarce and highly desirable Ideal holster/stock combination set.
