Spectacular World War II German Walther PPK Party Leader Semi-Automatic Pistol with Scarce "Ersatz" Plastic Party Leader Holster

This is an excellent example of an all original, Walther Mod. PPK Party Leader pistol with the highly desirable and very rare Political Leader Party grips. These PPKs were officially known as the "Honor Weapon of the Political Leaders", as these PPK pistols, with these special grips installed, were presented to high ranking officers of the NSDAP for meritorious service to the party. The grips themselves are a one-piece wraparound grip consisting of a mottled-brown plastic material that has the distinctive large Nazi eagle clutching a swastika encircled by a wreath at the top on both sides with the balance of the grip having impressed checkering. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther banner followed by the factory legend and caliber in two lines and the designation "Mod. PPK." The pistol itself is a pre-war commercial model with the "Crown/N" proofmarks, stamped on the right side of the slide below the ejection port, the right side of the frame in the chamber area, and the right side of the barrel at the muzzle. The pistol has a 60 degree safety lever and lanyard loop on the bottom of the frame, and is sans chamber indicator. The serial number (190934K) is marked vertically on the right side of the frame behind the trigger with the last three digits (934) correctly scratched inside the slide. The traditional set of two blued, Walther marked magazines are included, one with the flat blued steel base and the other with the brown plastic finger extension that matches the tone of the grip. Party Leader grips will be found on Walther PPKs in the 850,000 to 935,000 range and again in the 174,000K to 234,965K serial number range. This matching example falls right in the middle of the second noted range. Completing the grouping is a very scarce Party Leader holster in a very late war configuration. Traditionally presented as a group along with the pistol and the two magazines, the holster also bore a prominent "Reichadler" brand on the flap to mark the bearer as a distinguished Party officer. Traditionally made from brown leather, chronic and ever-growing material availability issues lead to the use of "ersatz" (substitute) materials. This example is constructed from five pieces of semi-rigid brown plastic (possibly vinyl), which were cut and stitched in direct emulation of the original leather pattern. The reichsadler is prominently imprinted into the flap, and no maker's mark is present. Party Leader holsters in general are difficult to find accessories; many trophy hunters didn't know the significance of the holster at the time, or found their trophy in a grouping of surrendered weapons that had been split up from their accoutrements. The ersatz holsters are even rarer, as the materials used often didn't travel or age as gracefully as leather, making this holster a rarity in its own right.

ConditionExcellent with 99% of the original pre-war high polished blue finish overall, with just a hint of wear on the very front edge of the slide and some minor spotting and handling marks. The grips are also excellent with a clear sharp eagle on each side with only a very small scratch on the upper right side. With the typical, very small minor, stress cracks just starting to show on each side of the grip around the grip screw bushing, with one, also a very minor, stress crack starting on the upper rear center section of the grip below the frame extension. The holster is in good condition, showing a <1" tear forming at the fold of the flap (left side, as viewed from the back), along with a number of light scuffs and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This example is dead on as an original falling right in the middle of the serial number range with the beautiful high polish, pre-war blue finish accompanied by an scarce late ersatz Party Leader marked leather holster.
