Description:

Remington manufactured approximately 28,000 .36 caliber New Model Navy revolvers between 1863 and 1878. Reportedly 4,300 of these revolvers were purchased by the U.S. Navy. This revolver has single block letter "D" inspection marks on the barrel, loading lever, frame, cylinder and trigger guard, and on the bottom flat of both grips. These markings are Remington factory markings and not military inspection marks. The revolver lacks the anchor stamp found on some U.S. Navy Remington revolvers. The solid frame revolver has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, frame and cylinder. The hammer has a casehardened finish, and the trigger is niter blue. The trigger guard is brass. The two-piece walnut grips are oil finished. The top of the octagon barrel is roll-stamped "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILLION, NEW YORK, U.S.A./NEW-MODEL" in three lines. "32506" is stamped on the underside of the barrel. Serial number "32508" is stamped on the left side of the frame beneath the grip. Faint illegible penciled marking on the underside of the left grip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 95% original attractive blue finish on the barrel and loading lever, with a few small handling marks. The cylinder has 50% of the blue finish with flaking and the other half having turned to a brown patina. The frame has 30% of the blue finish on the protected areas with a mottled brown patina. Most of the case colors are retained on the hammer. The trigger retains most of its original niter blue finish. Grips are in excellent condition with some light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
