Manufactured and originally proved between 1875 and 1887 at the Birmingham proof house. Damascus steel barrels with concave solid rib marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS.170.NEW BOND ST LONDON." and a doll's head extension. The bar-in-wood action, locks, and hammer are casehardened and show light scroll engraving with locks marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS". The hammers are set up for firing both pinfire and centerfire cartridges, however, the pinfire functionality is no long part of the action. Nicely figured, checkered walnut splinter forend with ebony tip and engraved fittings and straight grip stock with blank inscription oval and steel buttplate. The barrels have been reproved as recently as 1954-1989. Includes a period correct hardwood case with Westley Richards trade labels and a nickel oiler. Stock and barrel measurements (R/L): chambers marked and measured at 2 1/2 inches; both bores 9 inches from the breech proved at .729 inches and measured at .734/.734 inches; choke constriction .002/.002 inches; minimum wall thickness .031/.038 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 1 7/8 inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs 2 oz. Very good, showing strong refurbished Damascus pattern on the barrels and an attractive silver patina on the casehardened areas. The release lever retains 50% blue finish and there is scattered areas of light oxidation. The reoiled wood is also very good with some minor marks and freshened checkering. The relined case is good with some damage and cracks on the exterior. Mechanically excellent.
