Registered Receiver Section for a Japanese Ho-103/Type One Aircraft Machine Gun with Sideplate, Class III/NFA C&R Fully Transferable Machine Gun.

Introduced in 1941, the Ho-103 (also known as the Type One and the Ho-104 when installed in flexible mounts) was Japan's answer to the Browning designed .50 caliber machine guns fielded by their opposite numbers with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Drawing heavily from Browning's design as well, the Ho-103 used the 12.7x81mm Breda cartridge, and traded a lower round velocity for a higher rate of fire. The registered component in the grouping is the top of the receiver bearing the Nagoya Arsenal "fighting fish" logo over the "18.6" Showa date (June 1943) and a Browning-style rear sight marked "NE5-1 C-64231A" (appears to be a U.S. component) welded on. The sideplate is numbered to match the top, with a blued finish.

ConditionFair. The top shows a rough texture and scattered pitting, with a general brown patina. The sideplate retains about 75% blue, with spotting and some grind marks. No assurances or guarantees are given regarding the feasibility, ease, or expense of restoring these parts to shootable condition. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
