This is a scarce example of an exceptional Bergmann Model 1896 Number 2 semi-automatic pistol manufactured by V. Charles Schilling in Suhl. The magazine is integral to the pistol and is located in front of the trigger and has a magazine cover that swings down. The pistol is equipped with the later style fixed trigger. The left side of the pistol has an oval shaped logo that depicts a "mountain man" holding a pick behind his back with sun rays showing from behind his back. The top of the oval is marked "Gaggenau," and the lower area is marked "V.C.S./SUHL". The left side of the barrel/receiver area proofmarked "611" followed by a "crown/crown/U", and the left side of the frame is marked "PATENT/BREVETE/S.G.D.G." The serial number "692" is stamped on the right front side of the frame. With checkered hard rubber grips with the Bergmann "B" monogram at the tops. Includes a wood case with tools, glass vial, and five 5mm Bergmann rounds in a clip. Provenance: The Clive Cussler Collection

Excellent, retaining 97% original blue finish with some occasional light scratches, some light edge wear below the barrel, and some light freckling on the grip straps and lanyard ring. 70% original nitre blue and straw colors on the small parts with some loss on the contact surface of the trigger. Grips are also excellent, retaining their original black color with some light handling marks, and crisp checkering. Presentation case is fine with some handling marks, scattered scratches, very fine lining and Bergmann ribbon inside, and a bowed lid that will not sit flush at the front, but does close and lock. Mechanically excellent.
