Carl Kauba (Vienna 1865-1922) vintage bronze "Amerika". This wonderful bronze of an Indian Chief attired in full Indian dress with a war bonnet on his head. He is semi-crouched displaying his war club in one hand & attached to his body feathered war shield that would protect him from his enemy's weapons. The statue was issued in very limited quantities & was considered to be his best Indian work bronze. Even though Kauba did not visit America to view the Indians first hand, he had a great reference library in his studio in Vienna so that he could create wonderful Indian bronzes from his various books & photos. The bronze is signed on the obverse Kauba with a Geschutz Mark (German Patent number) 6257. The dimensions are HT: 24in. X W: 10in. 2in. Circular marble base, weight ~35lbs.
Very good with minimal handling/storage evidence.
