Very Scarce U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1795 Type I Flintlock Musket Dated 1803 with Bayonet

This is a very scarce example of a Model 1795 Type I musket, one of approximately 1,048 manufactured by Harpers Ferry in the year 1803. This model was the first to be produced at the newly established Virginia arsenal and was utilized in the United States 19th century conflicts, including the War of 1812 and Civil War. The lock has the standard Harpers Ferry markings including "HARPERS/FERRY/1803" at the rear, and "eagle/US" at the center. The barrel has two faint proofmarks at the left of the breech. Serial number "2756" is marked on the left of the barrel at the breech and on the buttplate tang. Other features include a bayonet lug on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle, brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the front barrel band, sling swivels on the middle band and ahead of the trigger guard, and a trumpet head ramrod. "GDM" (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes socket bayonet, leather sling, and wood tampion. Provenance: The George Moller Collection

ConditionVery good as professionally reconverted to flintlock configuration with smooth bright metal surfaces, some light pitting, and clear lock markings. Stock is also very good as lightly sanded and re-oiled with scattered scratches and dents, repaired section behind the flashpan, repaired section behind the lock, a crack above the sideplate, cracks around the buttplate, and chips at the toe. Mechanically fine. Included bayonet is also very good with dark brown patina overall. A rare U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1795 Type I musket that would make a fine addition to any U.S. martial arms collection.
