Description:

Manufactured in 1906, this bayonet is configured for use with a Maxim Silencer, which was seen in limited numbers on American-issued 1903 rifles during the First World War. The chief modification is the deletion of the conventional muzzle ring from the guard in place of a dovetail block sized for a slot on the underside of the silencer. Overall length is 20 1/2 inches, with a 16 inch straight single fuller blade, marked "US/67138" on the right ricasso and "S A/(bomb)/1906" on the left. The grip is ribbed hardwood, with a blued hilt. With an edge-stitched brown leather sheath, with a metal belt swivel and "R.I.A./1908/T.C." stamped on the back. Provenance: The George Moller Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good. The blade has been polished, with mild spotting and a small amount of pitting. The hilt retains 50% of the blue finish, showing some bright wear and areas of patina, and the grips show some minor edge chipping. The sheath is good, with some scuffing of the leather, the belt loop swiveling freely, and some mild pitting and a mixed brown patina on the metal.
