Description:

This rifle is an example of a serviceman's target or Wehrmannsgewehr rifle, which were assembled from some World War I surplus parts, newly made receivers, and other newly made parts between the World Wars. This particular rifle appears to have been presented as a wedding anniversary gift to J. Hauser in November of 1936, with a silver banner plaque on the right of the stock marked "Sch.=Ges.Saalburg/gest. anlaBl. der/Silberhochzeit/J. Hauser. Nov. 1936". Blade front and ski-ramp tangent rear sights, with the receiver ring marked "ORIGINAL/HAENEL-LORENZ" over the Haenel arrow logo. The bottom of the barrel is numbered "2127". Multiple components are numbered "27". The magazine assembly is properly absent, with the stock solid in the region. Smooth pistol grip stock with a R Fischer maker's disk and a smooth flat buttplate. Includes a leather sling. Provenance: The Buckstix Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 60% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned slightly to a smooth grey patina. The silver plaque shows an attractive antique patina. The refinished wood is fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches and a small splice visible in the right near the barrel band. Mechanically excellent.
