Manufactured in 1938, the first year of production for the Colt Match Target Model pistol. Standard two-line address/patent dates marked on top of the barrel. The left side of the barrel is marked with the early "MATCH/bullseye/TARGET" model marking. "THE WOODSMAN" is on the left side of the frame, and "COLT AUTOMATIC/CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE" followed by the Rampant Colt is on the left side of the slide. The serial number is marked on the butt. Fitted with blade front and adjustable rear sights, serrated trigger, serrated panel on the back strap indicating it was designed for high velocity ammunition and two tone blue magazine marked "COLT WOODSMAN/CAL .22 L.R./MATCH TARGET MOD." Fitted with the desirable checkered "elephant ear" grips with Colt medallions. Includes the original maroon box, matching numbered test target, grip block, and hanging tags.
Excellent, retains 99% plus of the bright original blue finish with only the slightest muzzle edge wear. The grips are also excellent with only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good with some mild edge wear and some scattered minor handling/storage marks. A benchmark Colt First Series Woodsman Match Target that would be welcome in even the most advanced collections!
