Description:

Offered here is a highly desirable detachable stock for the Volcanic pistol-carbine. The number "478" appears on the tang of the brass buttplate. The last digit to the number "478" (number "8") appears on both buttplate screws, the back of the buttplate and stock under the buttplate. The Volcanic Arms Company manufactured approximately 300 pistol carbines with 16- and 8-inch barrels and attachable stocks c. 1855-1857. An accompanying original shoulder stock is incredibly scarce, and when the stock is encountered with the shoulder fired arm, the stocks are often mismatched. Provenance: The Dr. Gerald Klaz Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine. The period revarnished walnut has a number of minor dings and scratches and a repair at the toe. The brass buttplate has a mixed patina. An incredibly scarce accessory missing from even the most advanced American arms collections.
