Description:

This print of a photograph by legendary Montana photographer Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931) is marked "On the Lewis & Clark Trail Near Elbow-woods N Dakota, West Bank Big Missouri River." and "One of the Few Earth Lodges. ©LA Huffman" across the bottom in white ink. The print shows a structure of mostly rough-hewn timber construction in the foreground and a traditional earthen lodge in the background similar to those built by Native Americans in the upper Missouri River valley. The visible print is 8 7/8 x 18 3/8 inches, 11 x 20 1/2 including the frame. The paper back of the frame is marked as from the L.A. Huffman Studio Collection. Provenance: The John Fox Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine with a distinct image and markings, some light restoration and scattered staining visible. The frame shows some mild wear and restoration.
