The Pattern 1839 percussion musket is considered to be the first percussion infantry long arm to be issued on a large scale in British military service, with some of these known to have been imported for use by the Confederacy during the Civil War. Features a bayonet lug front sight, V notch rear sight, and the front end has a Lovell patent spring catch for retention of the bayonet. "crown/VR/ENFIELD" marked at the center of the lock and "1842" date marked ahead. Crown proofs marked at the breech, on the lock, and on the left stock flat. "I.C.R" marked behind a circled Enfield stamp on the right of the buttstock. "28/267" marked on the buttplate tang. "GDM" (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock.
