Description:

This pair was likely manufactured in Northern Italy in the early 18th century. The snaphaunce locks remained in use longer in Northern Italy than elsewhere in Europe after flintlocks rose to be the dominant lock type. The pistols are not signed but have very ornate engraving and sculpting incorporating flowing floral designs and bestial mask elements as well as figures on the pommels, wrist escutcheons, and the pierced side plates. The stocks have relief carved molding.

Rating Definition:

Good with gray patina and mild pitting. The partially restored stock is fair and has distinct relief work, some cracks and insect damage, a spliced forend, and some smaller repairs. Mechanically needs work (doesn't hold when cocked).
