This is a scarce example of a DWM Model 1906 Portuguese Luger contract pistol. These were actually produced for the "Royal Portuguese Navy", circa 1910 when the Republic of Portugal was established. It has the standard commercial rust blued finish with straw colored smaller parts and checkered walnut grips. It is estimated that a total of approximately 1,000 were produced, with the highest known serial number to date of 769. The top of the chamber is marked with the: "Portuguese Crown over a Single Fouled Naval Anchor" with the "DWM" logo on the front toggle. This first model has the earlier 1906 style frame with grip safety, no stock lug, with the correct polished lower safety area (with no markings) and the "CARREGADA" marked extractor. The lower left side of the barrel extension is also correctly stamped with the Portuguese "MP" proof with no other inspection or acceptance proofs on the pistol. As noted this model is numbered in the correct commercial manner, with no letter suffix, with the barrel and frame numbered (280) with the various other parts correctly numbered with the last two digits. It is fitted with an early nickel plated magazine with a commercial wooden base that is stamped with "Cal 9 M/M" lengthwise on the base.

Excellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish overall with some extremely light specks of surface rust visible on the lower grip straps. The various smaller parts retain 97% of their original straw colors fading slightly. The grips are also excellent with nice distinct checkering on both sides with only a few minor nicks/handling marks in a couple of places. This is the finest "Royal Portuguese Navy" Luger we have sold and possibly one of the finest known Portuguese Navy Contract Luger pistols.
