Description:

Patterned as closely as possible after the Gewehr 98 military rifle, the "Wehrmannsgewehr" was intended for civilian or paramilitary target practice, using the commercial 8.15x46 cartridge instead of the 7.92x57, which was restricted post-WWI. These rifles are described in great detail on p. 179-181 of "Mauser Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles" by Speed, Schmid, and Herrmann, with an example shown that is four numbers away in serial number, 108471. This particular rifle has a small 1934 dated plaque on the bottom of the buttstock marked "20 DEUTSCHES BUNDESSCHIESSEN LEIPZIG" which translates to "German Federal Shooting Leipzig". Blade front and tangent rear sights with a windage adjustment knob and graduations for 100, 175 and 300 meters. The barrel is marked with the serial number and caliber marking on the left and " BL.G./Sch.H." on top at the breech. The receiver has "crown/letter" proofs, the serial number, and the Oberndorf address all on the left, with the Mauser banner on top of the receiver ring. The receiver is completely solid on the underside, completely covers the bolt apart from a loading/ejection port on the right, and an integral single round loading tray. Smooth pistol grip stock with "O.K.R" faintly marked on the right and a flat steel buttplate. Provenance: The Buckstix Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish with some scattered light handling marks and a light wear revealing a smooth grey patina. The wood is fine with a repaired duffel cut between the barrel bands and some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent.
