The accompanying factory letter confirms the no. 1 octagon barrel in .22 Long, plain trigger and takedown configuration. The rifle was received in the warehouse on October 13, 1917 and shipped on November 2, 1917. The No. 1 barrel is fitted with a blade front sight and an elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight and is stamped with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "22 LONG" at the breech. The takedown feature on this rifle is seldom encountered and highly desirable. The lower tang has the serial number while the 1879 patent date and trademark are on the upper tang. It is mounted with a Schnabel tip forearm with ebony insert and a straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 85% plus of the bright original blue finish and 60% of the vibrant case colors with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina with some scattered light handling marks. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
