This print was used in a variety of Winchester advertisements and depicts a barn setting with white "bear dogs" in the foreground and two large brown dogs that may be bloodhounds in the background. These dogs were reportedly part of the Winchester family hunting pack. The lower left corner is signed by the artist "H. R. Poore/Philadelphia". The original Winchester walnut frame is marked with "WINCHESTER" across the top, Winchester W's in all four corners, three shot shells descending on both sides, and "RIFLES. SHOTGUNS FOR SALE HERE and AMMUNITION" across the bottom. The frame measures approximately 41 inches in width and 31 3/4 inches in height overall, with the observable area of the print measuring approximately 34 3/4 inches in width and 25 3/8 inches in height. Provenance: The Doug Ellison Collection
Fine, showing rich color, a few scattered minor chips and otherwise minimal wear. The frame is also fine with a sliver absent from the upper left edge, some scattered minor handling/storage marks, and very fine color on the stenciled designs with minimal fading. A very desirable piece of Winchester advertising to complete your gun room or office!
