This rifle was originally manufactured around early 1900s and has since been rebuilt into a modern hunting and target rifle and features a modern barrel with a beaded blade front sight, large rib at the breech, "CALIBER ~ .303 SAVAGE" marking, and "8" marked sling stud. There are taps in the rib and top of the receiver with screws in place for mounting a scope, and the left side of the receiver ring also has taps for mounting a peep sight. The Remington Arms Co. address and 1901 patent marking is on the frame. The stock and forearm are finely checkered high grade walnut and have beautifully carved flats with shadow lines at the junctions with the frame. The stock also has a silver cap inscribed "M/P/D" at the center with floral scrollwork border on the grip, a shadow line cheekpiece, and a hard rubber buttplate with embossed stag, pair of hounds, and scrollwork. The stock work is reported to have been done by Richard McDonald of Franklin, Indiana. The rifle was owned by Merrill P. Deer, former president of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and one of the founders of the Single-Shot Rifle Collectors Association.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall as professionally custom made with 98% plus of the deep blue finish and vibrant case colors, beautiful figure on the wood, crisp checkering and markings, with some minor handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent.
