Highly Desirable Documented Winchester Raised Thumbprint Dust Cover First Model 1873 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

Manufactured in 1874 as a desirable first model carbine with distinctive dust cover held in place by grooved guides on either side of the receiver, dust cover with raised checkered oval thumbprint grip on top and lever latch with visible screw threads. The accompanying factory letter (copy) confirms the 20 inch barrel and states the carbine was received in the warehouse on September 30, 1874 and shipped October 21, 1874. The front sight is integral to the barrel band, and there is a two leaf rear sight. This early carbine correctly lacks caliber markings, otherwise standard markings, a saddle ring is mounted on the left side of the receiver, and carbine stock with trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

ConditionVery good, retaining traces of original blue finish in the protected areas, otherwise a brown-gray patina. The wood is very good with some chipping along the surface and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A rare and desirable raised thumbprint dust cover Winchester First Model 1873 Carbine.
