This powder horn is carved with a bird next to an American shielded eagle next to an American flag containing 9 stars and 8 stripes above an elephant and a lion over the date "1838" above the name "JONATHAN BUFFINTON" with a deer and what appears to be a bear below, a house, and floral accents. No information has been found about the carved name at this time. The horn measures at approximately 13 3/4 inches long. This is an attractive piece of 19th century Americana.
Good with defined carving, light age related wear, a few scattered chips, and some missing tacks around the base.
