Description:

This large portrait of Andrew Carnegie was painted at the beginning of the American icon's philanthropy. At this point in his life, Carnegie's public view would turn from a shrewd businessman to an generous giver. At the time of this painting Carnegie had just began his project which concluded with the building of over 3,000 libraries nation wide to the sum of over $56,000,000. The bottom left corner of the painting has the artist's signature and the date "1905". The painting is housed in a large gold painted wooden frame with floral carvings and a lamp at the top. The frame and painting measure 52 1/2 inches by 23 1/2 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, with one spot of repair detected on the lower right, limited handling marks on the frame and an attractive slightly age darkened image. Lamp untested.
