Description:

These "New Model" revolving rifles, carbines, and shotguns were manufactured in a variety of configurations from 1855 to 1864. Of the 18,300 manufactured, only 2,300 where .56 caliber carbines with 21 inch barrels. However, this carbine is rarer in that it is one of roughly 2,000 .56 caliber carbines (various barrel lengths) with London proofs and brass round trigger guards. These "British Carbines" generally had brass buttplates, but this example has an iron buttplate. It also has a brass blade front sight, three leaf rear sight (one standing), the standard one-line address on the top strap, patent markings in one of the cylinder flutes and left side of the frame (traces), saddle ring and stud on the left, and smooth stock. The barrel, frame, trigger guard and buttplate are stamped with matching serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The frame retains 30% original blue finish with an area of touch up on the left side around the patent date marking. Traces of original blue remain on the barrel. A generous amount of original blue remains on the buttplate. Hints of original case colors remain on the hammer. The very good stock has been repaired at the wrist, and there are minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
