Description:

Starting in the 16th century, canes and walking sticks became extremely popular, first among royalty and nobility, and by the 19th and 20th centuries having worked their way down to the middle classes as a symbol of status. The grip of this cane features a beautifully relief carved bust of a Native American man, including the fringed collar of his clothing. Just below the grip is a German silver band between it and the varnished hardwood shaft which is tipped with horn. The overall length is 36 1/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, the antique ivory showing an attractive lightly aged appearance with crisp carving, a few scattered minor dings on the shaft, and a couple chips of the horn tip absent.
