This .500 revolver was manufactured circa 1880 and was designed to fill the same role as a powerful howdah pistol. This large frame revolver has an octagonal barrel with raised narrow sighting rib bearing a crescent blade front sight and signed “LINCOLN JEFFRIES/GOLD PRIZE LONDON. 1870/FIELD PRIZE. LONDON. 1879”. The left upper barrel flat is engraved “C.F. 500 GAUGE”. The rib extends to form the top strap which incorporates a grooved rear sight. The cylinder is marked "STEEL" and "MARENAS/MADRID". The frame has twin release levers and bronze/gold colored screws and cylinder release. Figured walnut grip has a cap with a lanyard ring. The barrel has small Birmingham black powder proof marks on the left upper flat. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection

Very fine. The barrel, cylinder and frame retain 95% original silver-plated finish with occasional loss and minor flaking. 95% gold remains on the cylinder release screw. Engraving is crisp and clear throughout. The uncheckered walnut grip is a recent expert made replacement. Mechanically excellent. A fine and decorative example of this scarce type of large bore English revolver.
