Blued Damascus steel barrels converted from pinfire to hammer ignition with single copper bead front sight on the smooth, concave solid rib which is marked "PATENTED OCTOBER 10TH 1865" at the breech as well as "WESTLEY RICHARDS 170. NEW BOND ST LONDON.", and 3 1/2 inch chambers with single extractor. The casehardened bar-in-wood action displays attractive scroll engraving extending onto the trigger guard, tangs, and hammers that were replaced at the time of conversion, and "WESTLEY RICHARDS" marked on either lock plate. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend with cross bar attachment and horn tip inlay and straight grip stock with blank inscription plaque and steel buttplate. Stock measurements: 1 7/8 inch drop at comb; 3 inch drop at heel; 14 1/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 12 lbs. 1 oz.
Very fine, showing a smooth brown patina on the barrels signature slightly softened, 40% case colors mostly in the protected areas, some areas of light spotting, and some minor pitting on the locks. The wood is also very fine with a few dings and scratches and worn but well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
