Manufactured in 1956. Blued Bohler Antinit steel barrels with single white bead sight on the matted vent rib, "GEBRUDER MERKEL, SUHL" and "W. GLASER-WAFFEN, ZURICH" marked at the breech on the left and right respectively, 70 mm (2 3/4 inch) chambers with automatic ejectors, and beautiful floral scroll work at the breech of the upper barrel. The grey hand detachable sidelock action features gorgeous full coverage floral scroll engraving with occasional bouquets of flowers on either bolster and "GEBRUDER MERKEL, SUHL" in a banner on the underside. The engraving extends to the trigger guard, tangs, and release lever. The gun features a single selective trigger and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered three-piece forend with engraved fittings including the Deeley latch release and straight grip stock with blank gold initial oval and leather wrapped recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .624/.625 inches; choke constriction .009/.029 inches; minimum wall thickness .042/.042 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 15 oz.
Excellent overall, retaining 98% plus original blue finish on the barrels, some scattered spotting o the action, 80% blue on the trigger guard, a few minor blemishes in the refurbished wood, and sharp checkering on the forend and stock. Mechanically excellent.
