The Model 1795 is historically significant as the first official standardized U.S. martial arm and the first firearm manufactured at the U.S. armories. The Model 1795 was based on the French Model 1766 widely used during the Revolution, and was the main infantry arm of the War of 1812. This musket has the correct Type I markings and features for the 1804-1806 period; according to "Flayderman's Guide: 9th Edition" 1795 muskets from this time period are considered to be very scarce. It has the third style of lock marking with "1804" date vertically marked at the tail, and at the center of the lock is a script "US" above a shielded eagle looking to its left above "SPRINGFIELD" in a downward curve. "US" (faint) marked on the top of the breech and "P/eagle/V" proofs marked on the left of the breech. Replacement frizzen with an added rear surface, and a replacement ramrod. "GDM" (George D.
