A former mainstay infantry weapon of British/Commonwealth infantry forces, the 2 inch mortar was used to provide indirect HE fire, smoke cover and illumination rounds in a relatively lightweight package. Overall finish is a brown paint, with the serial number, caliber and maker's marks on the detachable threaded tube. The baseplate is a streamlined "spade" design echoing the Japanese "knee mortar", with a spring loaded firing mechanism.
Very good, with 80% of the brown repainted finish, showing some flaking and wear, along with areas of exposed patinated steel and areas of rough texture in the underside of the tube. The firing mechanism needs to be mechanically reset, but is otherwise in mechanically good order. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
