Description:

This is one of approximately 8,650 Model 1816 muskets manufactured at Harpers Ferry in the year 1841. Model 1816 muskets were primarily used in conflicts with various Native American groups after the War of 1812 and were also used into the Mexican-American War era and the Civil War. With the majority of these Model 1816 muskets receiving various alterations to percussion, this example appears to remain in its original flintlock configuration. Features a top mounted bayonet stud and brass blade front sight located on the rear strap of the front barrel band. The lock is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1841" vertically behind the hammer with the eagle and shield motif above "US" marked at the center. "184x" (last digit illegible) dated barrel tang. "JG" inspection initials marked behind the lower tang. Single digit assembly numbers are marked on various components. "GDM" (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes a US socket bayonet and reproduction leather sling. Provenance: The George Moller Collection

Rating Definition:

Good with scattered moderated pitting overall. Stock is very good with scattered scratches, some mild dents, a chip ahead of the trigger guard finial, a chip ahead of the lock, and some chips around the barrel tang. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is very good with sharp edges and scattered light pitting.
