Manufactured in 1896 with the standard two-line address and patent marking on the top flat of the barrel in front of the rear sight. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY", and the serial number is on the lower tang. The serial number is repeated in the stock inlet and on the inside of the buttplate. It is fitted with blade front, notch rear with platinum center line, and Marble tang mounted peep sights. It is mounted with a multi-point checkered forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .22 caliber with a 24 inch octagon barrel when shipped on 17 August 1896. It is not unusual that the factory letter does not list the checkered stock as they generally only list pistol grip stocks as a special feature. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection
Excellent, retains 90% plus of the original high polish blue finish and 50% of the muted original case colors with the balance having thinned to a mostly a smooth grey patina. The wood is very fine with some scattered light dings and scratches, and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
