This prototype rifle is built off a 336 size action. Unlike a normal Model 336, this rifle is a single shot and does not feature a magazine, instead having a lip machined into the receiver for a .30-30 cartridge to sit on before the bolt pushes it into the chamber. The receiver top tang bears no model marking, and the lower tang is not marked with a serial number. Fixed to the receiver is a Williams peep sight. This rifle features a 23 inch heavy barrel with ramped hooded beaded blade front sight and "JM" proof on the right side at the receiver and what appears to be "1898" on top.. The rifle is fitted with a flat bottom multipoint checkered forend affixed by a single screw which goes through the front into the receiver and a multipoint checkered, beautifully figured walnut buttstock with a plastic Marlin buttplate. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection
Very fine, retaining 97% plus blue finish with limited handling marks, a spot of cold blue touch up on the bottom of the receiver, and a dull blue finish to the barrel with both markings softened. Wood is excellent with limited handling marks and crisp checkering. The action locks up on occasion when actuating the lever otherwise, mechanically fine. This is your chance to own a unique prototype Marlin single shot lever action rifle.
