Originally manufactured by Marlin Firearms, this rifle has subsequently been masterfully reworked by noted 19th century gunsmith Eric Johnson. The action is marked "J.M. MARLIN. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A./BALLARD'S. PATENT. NOV. 5. 1861." on the left side of the casehardened frame which is partially covered by a peep sight mount and drilled holes for a tang peep sight mount. The frame has been fitted with one of Johnson's heavy target barrels and is marked "#596 7/9/'46" beneath the forearm with a front sight mounting block at the muzzle, drilled and tapped holes for mounting a scope block and a scope rail section near the breech holding a Leupold VARI-X III 6.5x20 scope. Mounted on a walnut beavertail forearm with hand stop and shadowline Swiss cheek piece stock with blued serrated buttplate. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally custom rebarreled and stocked. Retaining 99% plus custom refinished blue finish and case colors. The wood is fine with a hairline crack on the left side of the wrist and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Scope is very fine with limited handling mark as well as clear optics and a crisp reticle.
