Exceptional Scarce Two Digit Serial Number 18 Remington New Model Percussion Revolving Rifle

Remington produced less than an estimated 1,000 of these revolving rifles between around 1866 and 1879 using a larger version of the New Model revolver frame fitted with rifle length barrels and fitted with stocks instead of grips. It is marked "PATENTED SEPT. 14 1858./E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A./NEW-MODEL" on top of the barrel in front of the notch and folding ladder rear sight and has a dovetail blade front sight. The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, cylinder, buttplate, stock, trigger guard bow, and lower tang. The barrel and cylinder are blued. The loading lever, hammer and frame are casehardened. The trigger plate, trigger guard and buttplate are plated in silver. The trigger guard is brass. The straight grip stock is nicely figured walnut. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

ConditionExtremely fine. The barrel retains 70% bright original high polish original blue finish and cylinder retains 60% bright original high polish original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. 60% original case colors remain on the loading lever, hammer and frame. The trigger guard and buttplate retain 95% original silver plating aged to an attractive dark appearance. The stock is very fine with some minor handling marks and nearly of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. This two digit serialized Remington New Model percussion revolving rifle would be hard to improve upon. A highly attractive example of a highly desirable Remington percussion long gun.
