Description:

The Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver was also known as the Improved Army or Frontier Army, and 25,000-30,000 were manufactured from 1875 to 1889 in Remington's main attempt to compete with Colt's Single Action Army. The Model 1875 is a classic Old West firearm that was based on Remington's successful New Model Army but chambered for metallic cartridges. This was Remington's first attempt to compete in the big frame cartridge revolver market, and it was followed up by the Models 1888 and 1890. Most Model 1875s were nickel plated making blued examples particularly desirable, especially when found in very fine condition like this example. This high end condition revolver certainly makes for a rarity in Remington collecting. Seldom are these Remington Model 1875s found blued. The revolver has a "pinched" front sight and top strap groove rear sight. The top of the barrel is stamped "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A." "44 W.", which is for 44-40 WCF caliber, is stamped on the left grip panel. A lanyard ring is on the butt. Matching serial numbers appear on the grip frame, both grip panels (in pencil), and loading gate. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% plus bright original high gloss blue finish with smooth brown patina on the balance. 95% original case colors remain on the hammer and loading gate. The grips are also very fine with a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A very fine example of a rare blued Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver.
