Description:

This set consists of a pair of Model No. 2 derringer pistols within a case that has a "Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co./14, Pall Mall, S.W./London." marked trade label inside the lid. The pair of pistols both have the Colt Hartford address on top of the barrels, identical flourishes of floral scroll engraving on the frames, serial number on the bottom of the barrels and butts, and matching checkered grips. Both are also marked with British proofs on the bottom of the barrel and Rampant Colt (only visible on "A" gun) on the upper left of the frame. These two pistols are more than 500 serial numbers apart, but, given their nearly identical condition and features, they have almost certainly been a pair for a very long time. The previously mentioned included hardwood case has a blank brass escutcheon on the exterior of the lid and also contains some .41 Rimfire cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains traces of the original blue finish in sheltered areas with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina, a few scattered patches of very light surface pitting, and crisp engraving. The grips are very good with some light handling marks and well-defined checkering with a few minor overruns. Mechanically excellent.
