Description:

This is a nice example of a medium frame Colt Lighting saddle ring carbine manufactured in 1886. It is estimated that only 89,777 total of the carbine and rifle were produced between 1884 and 1902. This particular carbine is also called the "Baby Carbine" because the barrel is slimmer and lighter than the standard carbine, weighing in at a pound lighter. The top of the barrel is marked: "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A/+ ELLIOTS PATENTS MAY 29. 1883. SEPT. 18. 1883+", "32 Cal" is marked on the left rear, the Rampant Colt appears on the left side of the frame and the serial number on the lower tang. The front sight is missing and the rear sight is an adjustable carbine type. Saddle ring, with leather strap, and staple attached to the left side of the receiver, checkered forearm and smooth straight grip stock with a steel carbine buttplate. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The carbine retains 90% of the original finish with thinning on the receiver and trigger guard and some light spotting on the barrel and receiver. There is some smooth brown patina on the receiver, trigger guard and lower tang. The sides of the hammer show strong bright case colors. The wood is excellent with some minor dents and dings. The checkering on the forearm is crisp. The barrel markings are crisp (the ends of the lines are partially covered by the rear sight), Rampant Colt is clear on the receiver. Mechanically fine.
