Exceptional Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver in Very Scarce .45 Long Colt Caliber

Offered here is a highly sought after, excellent overall condition Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army in scarce .45 LC. Although 25,000-30,000 of these revolvers were manufactured by Remington from 1875-89, the bulk of production was chambered in .44 caliber, leaving only a few surviving examples in .45 caliber. High condition .45 caliber examples like this one are nearly unheard of. The majority of the Model 1875 revolvers, no matter the caliber, saw hard use on the frontier. The left side of the frame and rear cylinder face have the caliber marking "45".The top of the barrel has the one-line Ilion address. The revolver wears nicely figured smooth walnut grips. The U.S. Department of the Interior purchased 639 nickel-plated Model 1875 revolvers in 1883 for issue to Indian Police but no specific serial numbers or markings have been identified for the Remington Indian Police revolvers. The Model 1875 Remington Single Action Army revolvers competed with the Colt Single Action Army revolvers but lacked the advantage of significant government sales. Provenance: The Don Ware Collection; E.J "Ted" Bell Collection; The Milan J. Turk Collection

ConditionExcellent, retaining 95% plus original bright original nickel plating with a spot of loss on the recoil shield, scattered handling marks and a light cylinder drag line. The grips are very fine with a slight chip at the toe (left panel) and minor-moderate dings. Mechanically excellent.
