Manufactured from 1884 to 1891. The No. 9 was a variant of the No. 8 but with a single trigger. This rifle is fitted with a windgauge front sight and mid-range Vernier tang sight. The barrel lacks provision for a rear sight. The top of the barrel is marked "32-40" at the breech, and the left side of the receiver has the two line Marlin address/Ballard patent marking. The barrel and forearm are numbered to the gun. The checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are nicely figured walnut. The buttstock has a cheek piece and is fitted with a nickel plated Swiss buttplate. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 75% plus original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The receiver, lever, breech block and hammer retain 60% silvered out original case colors. The buttplate has an overall bright appearance. The wood is very fine with minor dings and scratches and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
