Approximately 1,500-2,000 of these rifles were manufactured c. 1860s-1870s by Allen & Wheelock and Ethan Allen & Co. Some were used by soldiers in the Civil War as privately purchased arms. Features a "pinched" blade front sight, the two-line address and patent marking on top at the breech, an adjustable notch rear sight on the frame, smooth forearm, and straight wrist buttstock. Very fine with 75% of the lightly thinning original blue finish on the barrel, 60% of the original blue finish on the frame, 80% vivid original case colors on the breechblock and hammer, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, and mostly mild age and storage related wear overall including some slight oxidation. The re-oiled wood is fine and has some light dings and scratches and a spliced repair at the toe. Mechanically fine.
