Description:

Manufactured from 1895 to 1930s. The medium weight barrel is numbered to the gun and is marked with the two-line address/patent date legend on the top flat. The caliber marking ("38-55") is stamped on the underside of the barrel under the barrel. The rifle is fitted with a windage front sight and a No. 100 mid-range Vernier tang peep sight. The barrel lacks provision for a rear sight seat. The receiver features rare factory etched scrollwork with shading surrounding a circular game scene vignette on each side; a dog on point on the left side and a portrait of an elk on the right side. It has double set triggers and full finger loop lever. The fancy figured walnut forearm and perch belly pistol grip stock feature multi-point checkering. The buttstock has a right handed check piece and a Swiss buttplate. A great example of a deluxe high-grade walnut stock that differentiates the Model 50 from the 49. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 75% much faded, thinned original blue finish with numerous spots, a smooth brown patina on the balance. The receiver and hammer retain 50% original case colors, otherwise faded to a silver gray patina. The etching is crisp. The wood is also fine with minor dings and scratches and some scattered blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
