Description:

This matched pair of long flintlock horse/holster pistols were likely made for the Ottoman market in the 19th century. The barrels have fluted sighting planes and fluted edges of the octagon portions of the barrels and are blued with gold inlaid scroll patterns and Ottoman style martial trophies. The breech plugs, standing breeches, and locks are casehardened and engraved. The wedge-fastened stocks are decorated with inlaid silver wire scroll patterns on the wrists and mounted with cast silver furniture with designs including martial trophies in high relief. The underside of the barrels, inside of the locks, and inside of the trigger guards are marked "609." The barrels also have Liege proofs on the left and small "crown/R" marks, and the breech plugs are stamped with a "crown/X."

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains nearly 70% of the original blue and gold finish with scattered age discoloration. The silver mounts have mild aged patina, and the casehardened lock and breech components retain a mix of case colors and smooth gray patina. The stock is also very fine and has sharp edges, light handling and storage marks, and small flake near the toe on the left. Mechanically fine.
