Manufactured from 1864 to 1876, approximately 1,200 total of these vest pocket pistols were produced, 200 in .22 RF like this example and 1,000 in .30 RF like gun "B". The "Fish Tail" or "Kickup" single shot was Joshua Stevens' first work as an independent arms manufacturer and elements of the design can be seen in the Stevens firearms manufactured into the 20th century. Both pistols have the Stevens Chicopee Falls address on the top barrel flat and the serial numbers marked on the bottom of the barrel and left of the grip frame. Pistol "A" also has the serial number hand marked inside the right grip. They are both fitted with blade front sights and smooth rosewood grips.
Very good, showing mostly a smooth grey patina with some scattered light pitting. The grips are also fine with some mild wear and a few light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
See "A". Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection
Good, with mostly a smooth grey patina and a few scattered patches of very light pitting. The grips are also good with some darkening, a small circular splice, and two hairline cracks in the left panel, and otherwise light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
