Manufactured circa 1870, with production numbers estimated at only a few thousand. The early production brass frame is not engraved unlike most examples. The top of the barrel is marked "BALLARD'S" and the left side of the barrel is marked with the three-line C. H. Ballard & Co. address and patent marking. It is fitted with a blade front sight and a pair of smooth walnut grips. The serial number, "183", is marked on the top of the frame and the bottom of the barrel where they meet, the right side of the grip frame, and on the inside of each grip. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection
Very fine, retains 75% of the original nickel finish, the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina, 70% of the original silver finish with the balance showing an attractive antique brass, and vibrant case colors on the hammer. The grips are very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
