Manufactured c. 1863-1865. Both have "J. REID N.Y. CITY/PATD. APL. 28. 1863" on the barrels. "A" is the rare variation with the small divots around the front end of the cylinder and a thumb screw that locks the cylinder and action (Tileston safety screw), a very rare feature.
Good with traces of original case colors on the hammer, 20% original blue on the barrel and cylinder, traces of original finish elsewhere, mostly smooth brown and gray patina on the balance, mild pitting and cleaning marks, and mild wear. The grips are very good and have attractive glossy finish, light dings, minor edge wear, and a small chip on one corner on the right. Mechanically fine.
Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection
Fine overall with 30% original silver remaining mostly on the frame, areas turned a plum tone, gray patina on the balance, minor pitting, mild overall wear, glossy finish on the grips, and a crack and flake on the left grip. Mechanically needs work.
