Samuel Jung was a gunmaker active in the early to mid 19th century in Suhl. The smoothbore Damascus barrels have a German silver bead front sight on the rib along with "SAMUEL JUNG A SUHL" and floral designs in silver inlay, and silver bands at the breech. The locks are similarly signed "SAMUEL JUNG" (right) and "A SUHL" (left) in silver inlay and also have floral engraving and mythical beast sculpted hammers. The furniture is German silver and has floral engraving. The stock has panels of checkering with floral carved accents and a horn forend cap. Provenance: Peter Sparks; The Milan J. Turk Collection
Fine with attractively aged patina on the silver inlays, gray and brown patina on the iron along with some mild pitting, repaired hammers, aged patina on the German silver furniture, and crisp engraving. The stock is also fine and has a spot of wear on the left side of the otherwise crisp checkering, distinct carving, minor dings and scratches, and some small chips at the edges. Mechanically fine.
