This rare French pigeon gun is dated 1907 on the underside of the barrels and is marked with legend “GRAND-PRIX 1900” on each barrel flat. With blued rib-less barrels with single extractor, choked .044/.047 inches (full/full), and with blade front sight and short raised sighting flat at the breech end. The breech end of each tube and the sighting flat engraved with fine flowering foliage and scrollwork. The underside of the barrels with various markings, St. Etienne semi-smokeless proof marks and respectively signed “DIDIER DREVET” and “CANONNIER A ST. ETIENNE” on the flats. Scalloped and side-clipped treble grip action with manual safety with gold inlaid “SUR”, double casehardened triggers, the front trigger articulated. The action and trigger guard with casehardened finish and finely engraved with further flowering foliage and scrollwork en suite with the breech ends of the barrels. Figured straight-hand stock with artificial stripes, carved stepped drop points, checkered heel, and fine checkered panels to the grip and forearm, the latter with Anson push button release. Fine. The barrels retain 98% original blue finish with clear engraved details at the breech end, some corrosion marking to the underside of the barrels covered by the forearm, bores generally bright with some minor surface marking. Action with very fine and crisp engraving, generally a faded grey patina with traces of stronger casehardened finish in sheltered areas. Trigger guard with some surface discoloration, engraving clear. Stock is very good with delicate, very fine multi-point checkering to the grip and forearm, more open checkering to the heel, numerous age related storage and handling marks, blemishes and some deep scratching. Mechanically excellent.
