The accompanying factory letters (three in all; dated: Oct. 1989, Dec. 1989 and Dec. 20 1989) confirm the Winchester Custom Shop grade of a Model 70 Super Express Sporter rifle in .416 Rigby caliber with selected American walnut Monte Carlo stock, cheek piece, express rear sight, floor plate engraved "SUPER EXPRESS," Winchester red rubber recoil pad, combination matte and high luster blue finish and 24 inch barrel. The rifle was chambered by Jim Wisner in conjunction with the Custom Shop. The rifle was supplied by the factory with an "Ultra Grade" mahogany case and the roll die for .416 Rigby caliber. The case and factory caliber die are included with the rifle. As stated by the October 1989 letter, this is the only .416 Rigby ever offered through the Winchester factory. Also includes the factory receipt for work order for this rifle dated December 1989 and a letter from Jim Wisner discussing the chambering work. The rifle also features a hooded ramp front sight, jeweled bolt and follower, and quick release sling swivels. The Winchester box is numbered to the gun with the end label dated "12-20-89." Two informational plaques are mounted to the top of the mahogany case. The rifle is featured in the Spring 1995 edition of "The Winchester Repeater" (page 29) and the March 1992 edition of "Guns & Ammo" (Page 65). Provenance: Formerly of the Peter and Patty Murray Collection; Robert M. Lee Collection
Excellent. The rifle retains 99% plus original blue finish showing a few minor scratches on the receiver. The stock is also excellent with a few areas of minor pressure dents. The checkering is crisp overall. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with a couple small tears. The end label is complete. The case is very fine with a detached missing knob and some scattered minor handling marks. A unique opportunity to own the only Winchester Model 70 Super Express Bolt Action Rifle Chambered in .416 Rigby!
